About Intimate Procedures On Opposite Sex
This may be hard to believe, but there are some
nursing & medical students, nurses, CNAs, and doctors who
have convictions that they should not do intimate procedures
on the opposite sex even in medical settings due to moral and
religious reasons. Sadly, they are often looked down on. We
feel they have the right to not do intimate procedures on the
opposite sex based on convictions.
Because physicians can object to providing certain
services based on their convictions such as prescribing birth
control pills, we feel that this also applies to doing intimate
procedures on the opposite sex. This falls in the category of
conscience based exemptions.
Some male family practice physicians will not
do breast exams, pelvic exams, or pap smears on women due to
moral or religious convictions. The truth is many women go to
an OB/Gyn for female health issues anyway. There is often at
least one female doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant
in the family practice that could do the women's health wellness
exams anyway. The male family practice doctor could always refer
the woman to a female doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician's
Assistant in his practice.
There are also female family practice physicians
who don't feel comfortable doing prostate and other male examinations.
They could of course easily refer their male patients to a male
doctor.
There are a number of specialties such as podiatry,
ENT, and neurology where doctors do not have to perform intimate
procedures.
We would love to hear from doctors, nurses, and/or
medical/nursing students who have taken a bold stand in refusing
to do intimate procedures on the opposite sex.
and some tips you would offer to other doctors, nurses, and medical
students who have the same convictions. It is very admirable for
medical professionals to take a bold stand on this matter.
It is much easier for doctors especially family
practice doctors to refuse to do intimate procedures on the
opposite sex than medical & nursing students and nurses.
It is more complicated for medical & nursing students and
nurses to refuse to do intimate procedures on the opposite sex.
